Take a look inside the abandoned facilities of an iPhone-making factory which was once abuzz workers from China. This rare CCTV footage reveals the horrifying working condition and living situation of workers of that factory. Nothing is glamorous about it, trust me.

The images are depressing as they show 12 workers had to live in a tiny room with dirty dining places and disgusting conditions of bathrooms. The life of Pegatron workers was indeed not so alluring.

This is not the first time though that Apple has been criticised for not looking towards the working conditions in their factories in China. The workers often work in 12-hour shifts for six days a week and get only $360 per month. There are previous incidents of suicides, strikes and rages by the workers in iPhone factories in China and Apple continued to insist that they are listening to the problems of the workers. The company told repeatedly that they are hiring investigators to look after the conditions and funding the training of workers. However, this current footage from The Daily Mail, which visited the iPhone factory, tells something else.

During peak production periods over 6,000 workers were living in dormitories where they had to sleep in cramped rooms with tiny bunk beds and around 20 workers had to shower alongside each other in a shared bathroom with open sewerage drains.

The conditions of the bathrooms were also pathetic with algae growing on the walls and green pools of water puddles forming on the floors. The walls were covered with hand written rules as well that the workers must follow.

The men and women worker’s dorms were separated only by padlocked fences. There were belongings of workers as well as they left the factory during Lunar New Year and later told not to come back.

Although, Apple repeatedly vows that it is committed towards respect and dignity of its workers, in reality, things are quite different in China where Apple parts get assembled by Chinese workers.

According to Apple their teams are continually working towards the improvement of the working conditions of their workers, providing them education and protect their human rights.

The company Pegatron is continuing to employ over 50,000 factory workers to assemble Apple products. Since, the plant was shut down only eight weeks before this footage was taken; the memories of the pathetic conditions of workers are still fresh.

Earlier also Apple and Pegatron allowed cameras inside their factories. However, they never before they allowed cameras in the dormitories. Apple offered no comments on this footage whereas, Pegatron insist that the living standard of workers were as per customers’ codes of conduct.
